Come to Swiss Wine Festival August 27-30, 2009 in Vevay, Indiana!

August 1, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Celebrating the 200th Birthday of the first vintage of commercial wine in America!

From area wines, twirling batons to culinary delights sizzling on grills, the Swiss Wine Festival each year celebrates, as well as salutes, the cultural heritage of Switzerland County, Indiana. Now in its 38th year, the four-day event, held on Vevay’s riverfront, uniquely blends tradition and fun. From opening day on Thursday to closing time Sunday evening, the Swiss Wine Festival caters to all ages and interests. Arousing polka music to toe-tapping country emanate from the three entertainment stages. Several of the youth-oriented contests sport colorful Swiss dress, ranging from intricate embroidered aprons to tied kneeknockers for lads.

Riverboat cruises allow passengers to enjoy the county’s pastoral landscape nestled alongside the towering Hoosier and Kentucky hillsides. The Beer Garden and Wine Pavilion afford spots of tranquility where visitors can converse with old acquaintances and newly met travelers. Rigorous canoe racing, hefty stone tosses and splashing grape stomps beckon those who favor adventure. And all birthday records diminish to single numbers during the Grand Parade Saturday morning and the fireworks extravaganza hours later.

To reach the host destination, the Paul W. Ogle Riverfront Park, travelers just need to head south at the town’s only stoplight on Indiana State Road 56. The river and crowd, just two blocks ahead, always extend a hearty welcome!

MAIFEST 2009

Covington, Kentucky.  The MainStrasse Village Association will present the 30th Annual MainStrasse Village Maifest, May 15, 16 and 17.

Chosen as one of the Top Twenty Events for May 2009 by the Southeast Tourism Society and one of the Top Ten Festivals in Kentucky for the Spring of 2008 by the Kentucky Tourism Council, Maifest is based on the German tradition of welcoming the first spring wines.  Maifest is the first major festival of the summer for the Tri-State region.  The assortment of arts and crafts and German and international foods becomes the main course to attract approximately 150,000 area families and regional travelers.

Maifest fills over SIX city blocks along the tree-lined 6th Street Promenade, Main Street and Philadelphia Street, and extends into Goebel Park.  The German park-like atmosphere creates the perfect backdrop for the variety of appealing food, drink and works by nearly 100 artisans and craftsmen. And be sure to visit the Kinderplatz, full of adventures and rides for the small children and the Amusement Midway filled with fun for the “older” kids.

Quality live entertainment by top local performers will spread the festive mood throughout Maifest. Great music will be featured at the Goebel Park Stage, the Festival Stage, the Main Street Stage and the Goose Girl Stage. Take your pick – German, Pop, Classic Rock, Blues or Country – it’s your choice!
